How Much Protein Do You Need To Build Muscle?

Protein builds muscle... It's not a secret If you want to get bigger, you've got to eat as much protein as you can, right? Well, kind of. Just eating piles and piles of protein alone certainly won't make you a muscle god on its own. Before you go off and buy half a cow, stacks of chicken breasts and as many protein shakes as your credit card will allow, it's best to know the optimal amounts you should be consuming. Obviously not everyone is the same. Your age, training frequency, current muscle mass and what sex you are will all determine how much protein you need to consume to build muscle. It stands to reason that the 180kg strongman Hafthor Bjornsson will probably need a little bit more than your average hardgainer just starting out at the gym. The reason you need to get adequate protein in your diet when doing any kind of training is because your body uses amino acids to repair damaged cells and grow new muscle tissue. If you're not getting enough essential am...

Casein protein before bed: How much does it take for results?

When studying and thinking about taking protein before bed, the idea is always the same: the goal of taking these proteins is to improve muscle recovery and regeneration during sleep, which is a prerequisite for progress and reducing the risk of injury. Do we need protein before bed? Simply put, protein intake stimulates muscle protein synthesis, a process that triggers muscle adaptation and growth. Studies have confirmed that consuming 40 g of protein before bedtime stimulates muscle protein synthesis overnight. However, is this relatively large amount really needed? A study conducted by Trommelen et al. investigated the effect of two different bedtime protein drinks on muscle protein synthesis rates overnight. All subjects did strength training in the afternoon and immediately after that consumed 20 g of protein. Just before bed, we got divided into groups: 30 g casein protein, 30 g of casein protein with 2 g of additional leucine, or non-caloric placebo drink Although the case...

Can Whey Cause Acne?

Posted by JD “I have used ON 100% Gold Standard Whey and some acne developed on me. During training days I take 5 scoops of it: 1 scoop in the morning, 2 scoops one hour before workout and 2 scoops after workout. During non-training days same number of scoops: 1 scoop per meal.”  Food Allergies.  There are many theories on food allergies. Some say they’re caused by excessive hygiene in today’s society. Others say vaccines are to blame. And others say it’s lack of breastfeeding. Whatever. Whey is a dairy product: it’s a byproduct of cheese. Allergic reactions to dairy are common. Lactose intolerance is one example. Acne another.  Food allergies are a personal thing. What gives you an allergy, might not give me one.  Quark & Acne.  I used to eat 1kg quark cheese daily. That’s +80g protein for less than 1รข‚¬. 250g quark with berries at breakfast, 250g with apples as snack & 500g 2 hours before going to bed (quark digests slowly). I often woke up with a ...

How to Feel Full Energy at The Gym

Eddie posted:  I’ve been doing strength training for 4.5 month now, and I enjoy it.  I’ve been eating right, sleeping for 9 hours. But when I go to the gym I just feel   weak. I fail all over the place.  I’ve deloaded, and get stuck when I hit the same weight. On the  Overhead Press 45kg. I just don’t feel strong at all. Has someone got any advice on anything to eat? Sleeping hours? Anything that will make me feel more alive?     Average day:         Morning: porridge + 2 scoops of whey         Mid day: shake         Dinner: chicken/pork/beef in sandwich or with potatoes         Mid after: shake, either after gym or before finishing work         Tea: Jacket potato with breaded fish or chicken with salad  I have at least 8:30 hours sleep. Sometimes up to 11, bit of...
